A herohill must read

Slowly and surely, we are drifting away from reading books and reading only the powerpoint, headline versions of stories. We at herohill.com have decided to put forth a list of books that we feel are worth reading.

The first book in this section is:
Waiting for Snow in Havana - Carlos Eire

This book is a memoir, written from the perspective of a young boy whose life is turned upside down when Castro overthrows Batista to take control of Cuba. The only thing he did wrong, aside from the antics of being young, was being a young boy in Cuba during the revolution.

Eire is a professor at Yale, and uses beautiful imagery throughout the book. The fact he was 8 years old in the story means he cannot fully understand why his world is changing, and the innocence of the being unable to fully comprehend the new world forming around him helps portray the realism of the situation. This is one of the few books I have read in the last two years that I have been able to put down.

Next book: Eureka Street - Robert McLiam Wilson
