I Hope The Nets Lose

As a Raptors fan and season ticket holder, I think I've earned the right to a little bitterness over the whole Vince Carter situation. So why should I have to be a good loser? 95% of people in Toronto feel the same way, so there's no need to hide it, I hope the Heat pound the Nets in the first round of the playoffs. I'm not bitter enough to sue Vince, as The Sports Guy suggested recently (ask Butch Carter how well basketball-related lawsuits go over), but I'd like to see him out of the playoffs in a hurry. So watching Shaq and the Heat smash Vince and the Nets did make me feel a little better.

So it seems I'm rather petty. But it's not that bad, it's not as if I want to see Vince get hurt (Or do I...no, no, I don't). It's just that his leaving is still fresh and seeing him do well reinforces how little the Raps have gotten out of that deal so far. I had to laugh at halftime today watching Carter be interviewed by legendary players-lacky Ahmad Rashad, and have him defend himself from Rashad's "hardball" questions. Vince continues to say that the Raptors were going in a different direction, so he needed to leave. Does anyone know what this means? Toronto loved Vince long time. If he had stayed healthy I doubt I'm even writing this. There's pressure to perform in pro sports, especially when you rise to the top of your game like Vince did. He just couldn't hack it here when the times got tough. We waited, and waited to see the return of the Vince of old, but he didn't want to give it to us, even once he got healthy.

But in the end, whatever. After one off-season my bitterness where Vince is concerned will recede. He's still the same frustrating player he was here, in love with jumpers and sweeping drives that try and avoid all contact. Watch Dwyane Wade play as this series goes on, he plays like Vince should play. Things are good with him in Jersey now, but I doubt they'll stay that way.

Go Heat.
