Best album title ever...

Sufjan Steven's is a nightmare to anyone using an IPOD these days. Song titles include things like, "Out Of Egypt, Into The Great Laugh of Mankind, And I Shake The Dirt From My Sandals As I Run" and "They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From The Dead!! Ahhhhh!". Just another reason I am loving my Shuffle.

Sufjan started a very optimistic project two years ago. He plans to write an album glorifying each of the fifty States. His first album (Greetings From Michigan) was a folky, rootsy tribute to Michigan that featured generous use of the banjo and a beautiful girl on the xylophones. The album mixes in several relaxed instrumentals and some beats that were fantastic enough to get indie kids almost dancing. Fans of Devendra with eat up his work.

Well, Sufjan is back at it with the upcoming release, "Come on Feel the Illinoise" (street date: June 5/05). Not only is this one of the greatest album titles, the album shows how diverse Sufjan is as an artist. Lumping this album as folk doesn't seem fair, as the horns and backing vocals adds a very upbeat, David Bryne feel to the project. The sounds keep the 22 track disc moving, but he maintains the elements (banjo, xylophones) that fans of his past projects have come to expect.

People like Sufjan will never be mainstream, but this project, and hopefully some exposure on the OC or on some prominent blogs will get him some of the album sales he deserves.
