It seems that I've been stuck on recommending electronic bands, or Beatles influenced sugar sweet pop bands lately. So I guess I will keep with the trend I'm on and mention the band – Irving. The 5-piece from LA is currently on tour with Voxtrot, so a lot of people who are all over Voxtrot are going to be treated to not one, but two bands for 9 bucks or less.

The band is touring in support of their new album, Death in the Garden, Blood in the Flowers. Despite the ominous title, the music itself is pleasant and addictive. The single, Situation starts with some thumping drums and a nice hook. The song takes life when the backing vocals kick in. You can almost hear the Fab Four harmonizing "Wilson" (from the classic track Taxman).

That being said, they aren't just another band sampling very liberally from the Beatles catalog. The hooks are diverse and the production is spot on. Working with Phil Ek (Shins, MM) and Jim Fairchild (Grandaddy) helps the band touch on many different sounds and techniques to create a solid album. The 80's themed Jen, It Doesn't Matter is my favorite.
