News:: Ghostland Observatory in Vancouver

In classic Vancouver booking, tomorrow has two shows that people will be all over. The first, the Hold Steady - @ the Commodore with Sean Na Na, is not one I’m too concerned with. Critics love the new record, but I’m not really seeing the appeal.

The second, is going to be a good time. The Texas duo, Ghostland Observatory, are bringing their electro funk routine to Richards on Richards. These guys jumped into the spotlight with a great set at ACL and some hype from Gorilla Vs. Bear.

Trying to describe the sound is not easy. High energy electro-rock, with hip hop back beats and soulful vocals. You’d be hard-pressed to make a Rapture or Faint comparison, but that’s a-ok with me. Unlike Ratatat, after hearing 30 seconds of the hook I’m still interested in the song and that's because of Aaron’s vocals. He channels Bowie, Prince, and Freddie Mercury without dominating the track. Its a little bit soul, a little bit rock, a little bit funk, and a lot awesome.
