Un-signed, sealed delivered - Pete Bush and the Hoi Polloi

If you are a long time reader of the hill, you know we are big fans of the Seattle outfit, Pete Bush and the Hoi Polloi. Originally from Pittsburgh, front man Pete Bush has a very diverse musical back story. Starting out in a hard rocking band called Kill Bossa, Pete made the move to a more jazzed out style when he became the songwriter and upright bass player for Salena Catalina. The merging of styles really changed the way Pete wrote music.

After being exposed to new styles, Pete began writing songs that are as much influenced by bands like Jawbox as they are by musicians like Charles Mingus, Andrew Bird or Nina Nastasia. Throw in the opportunity to play bass for the legendary Cub Country and you can see why Pete’s songwriting continues to improve.

Well after a year in the Seattle area, Pete has found the right pieces to complete the Hoi Polloi puzzle, adding a full-time cellist (Kaia from Seattle act Casandra Speaks) and the band is putting the finishing touches on new songs before heading into the studio to record the debut album. They recently had a quick basement session and passed on some songs for us to check out:
