Bewtween the covers:: Ween vs. Goodbye the Band

Ocean Man is a classic example of Ween just being Ween (like Manny is just being Manny I guess). The song is funny and equally nonsensical, but somehow the pop sensibility of the song makes you just kind of want to move around to it. One would question anyone who thought this song wasn't drug related or inspired, but who knows (especially since he makes a reference to a dude and his male loving friend by his side).

But check out the lyrics -
"Ocean man, take me by the hand, lead me to the land that you understand
Ocean man, the voyage to the corner of the globe is a real trip
Ocean man, the crust of a tan man imbibed by the sand
Soaking up the thirst of the land."

MP3:: Ocean Man - Goodbye the Band
John Acquadro - aka Goodbye the Band - is back with a free downloadable single. The b-side is an interesting choice - Ocean Man by Ween. It's not exactly a common track and people still loving the Mollusk makes me smile. His take on the song is as beach-tastic as the ocean (or a lake if you so prefer), beer in cups and sunburned feet. He adds a side order of reggaetown steel drum fun to the song, and the dueling vocals actually sound like something Ween would do (altering one with a computer to heighten the comedy).

I have to admit, John's take is more catchy than the original, but this has to be a split decision, as Ween is too fun and enjoyable to slag.
