News:: 9th Wonder Solo Album

Despite leaving Little Brother and making beats for the likes of Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, and Destiny's Child, 9th Wonder has still managed to keep one foot dipped in the underground hip hop pool as his work with Murs and Sean Price can attest to. This shouldn't be a surprise considering 9th is a founding member of the Justus League, one of the more successful indie hip hop collectives to emerge in recent years. But sometimes that big time R&B; production cash will do weird things to a guy - see Storch, Scott or Land, Timba.

It doesn't appear to have affected 9th much though, as his debut solo album, Dream Merchant 2 appears to affirm his commitment to the DIY hip hop set of North Carolina and beyond. The album drops in October (fittingly, on the 9th) and along with Justus fam members like Chaundon, Little Brother, and Joe Scudda, the album also features underground heavyweights like Sean P, Mos Def, Camp Lo, and Buckshot. I'm looking forward to hearing this, a stellar roster and 9th's soulful beats always keep things interesting. Plus I found this in 9th's Wiki entry:

Recently, 9th Wonder, along with Christopher "Play" Martin from the hip-hop group Kid-n-Play, were appointed Artist of Residence by the Chancellor of North Carolina Central University, and instruct a hip-hop history class in NCCU's Music Dept.

What's not to like about that?

For now here's a teaser featuring The Midwest Wreckin' Crew aka Royce The 5'9 (Detroit), Naledge (From Chitown & Kidz in The Hall), and Vandalyzm (Atl via St. Louis). Enjoy.
