News:: You Talk Like A Pirate, Slick Rick Is A Pirate

I realize I'm late with this, but you can't rush genius, or nonsense. They both require some marination time. Anyway, yesterday was Talk Like A Pirate Day, and only near the end of the day did I remember Chamillionaire's performance from Letterman the other day where he was joined by the legendary Slick Rick. The song is whatever, some kind of flip of the Snoop Classic Murder Was The Case, but check the video to see Slick Rick make a cameo wearing his trademark eye-patch and enough gold bullion around his neck to make Jack Sparrow give up eyeliner to get his hands it.

...Are you a Pirate, why you got that eye patch on for

I don't know why I didn't know this before, but Slick Rick actually needs the eyepatch. I always took it for granted that the patch was just another of Ricky D's fashion statements. Just what statement would that be exactly, "I'm too sexy for my eye!", I have no idea. But anyway, according to Wiki, Rick was blinded in his right eye by glass as an infant, which really kind of sucks. So next year when some chaunce in your office passing out homemade eye-patches, you can say "Uhh, some people and/or former hip hop greats actually have to wear those, how do you think this would make them feel? Why don't you hand out homemade visual-assistance canes too!" That ought to get the pirate good times flowing.

But anyway, I still can't believe I didn't know Slick's eye-patch was the real deal. I suppose I'd have known if I'd had access to Wikipedia when I was initially curious about Rick's eyepatch, in like 1989. But now you know, and don't you feel richer for it?

So what's the point of this post? I have no idea really, mainly that Slick Rick is still awesome. Oh, and Letterman is awesome due to his closing line:

Yeah, now we're getting somewhere, know what I mean!?!

Boy do I.
