Between the Covers:: Alphaville vs. The Youth Group

I'll be honest, I could take or leave either of these tracks, but I couldn't really think of a better one to include this week. It's my sister and father's birthdays this week so I wanted to give them a bit of a shout out.

My dad is hitting his stride in his mid-60s, and like this song's title it's remarkable how great shape he keeps himself in. He's able to play 4 rounds of golf a week after finally retiring from medicine and he looks better now than he did at 50. Plus he has more hair than I do. Crazy.

My sister is getting up there, finishing her residency and having a first kid (well, my bro-in-law is kind of a kid, so maybe her second?). It's been another crazy year for her, but in the complete opposite way she always seems like my kid sister, despite the fact she is way more mature and successful than me. Next year she turns 30. Now I feel old.

Anyway, happy birthday Dad and Amy.

MP3:: Forever Young - Alphaville
This song makes me laugh a little. The swells of horns make me think that this 80s troop took themselves more seriously than was warranted, but the keys and reverb fit the 80s anthem niche well.

MP3:: Forever Young - The Youth Group
This was recorded for an OC cover album I believe. They keep it pretty well on pace with the Alphaville version, so I think that makes it a bit cheesier? Who knows.

Is there a winner? I don't really care. I just wanted to say happy birthday ... Dennis.

I absolutely looove this song b/c of the lyrics and truth be told the music (and the horn swells) give it an amazing emotion.
