Sunday Morning Coffee:: Hot damn, new Cub Country

Sorry to all Hali-couver bands, but waking up this morning to find Jeremy and the boys from Cub Country have a new song for us all takes top billing today.

Cub Country is apparently ramping up to release a new record. Update - Around the Bend is actually a comp record from a great indie record store in Utah. Check it out here. It features some great local bands, including Band of Annuals who I saw open up for Cub Country in Seattle.

This tops off a week where Hayden announced a new record and I fell in love with Tyler Ramsey's upcoming release. Folk-rock-country apparently is going to be the new black in '08.

This track, Slow Ascending, is beautiful. Some nice female harmonies, and the the trademark balance between acoustic and electric. The songs floats effortlessly and the gentle outro that turns into static to close the song, well it all just comes together like one of Hannibal's plans.

Hey, just an FYI to all you Cub Country-loving folks up in Western Canada: "Around The Bend" isn't actually a new Cub Country album, but a compilation put together by Salt Lake's best vinyl stop, Slowtrain. It has some of my favorite Salt Lake music (Band of Annuals, Calico, Dead Horse Point as well as the C.C. song) contributing new tracks and is definitely worth checking out. Here's a link to the album: http://www.slowtrainmusic.com/aroundthebend.html
