Old School Mondays:: Slick Rick & Eric B. & Rakim (NBA All-Star Edition)

How about that dunk-off! How about that Dwight Howard! Sure, that Superman dunk was more of an overhand layup due to the fact that he threw it into the basket, but still, he put on quite the show. The first one where he threw it off the backboard, and the other one where he topped it off the backboard to himself are two of the nuttiest dunks I've ever seen in the competition. I liked Gerald Green's birthday surprise dunk, but Gerald didn't seem to have much fun throughout the thing. I think the fact that he's been nailed to the timber for the Timberwolves is weighing on him.

It was good to see Kapono wipe the floor with the competition in the 3-point shootout. Honestly, we need more of that for the Raps in the second half of the season. All in all it was an entertaining evening. No surprise there, as NBA Saturday has always been must-see TV for me. I know people have been poo-pooing the dunk-off for years and talking about all the changes they could make to make the evening more interesting, but I say whatever to that. If you don't have a ton of laughs watching an evening of TV like last night, I doubt you'd enjoy hanging with the Ack and I.

Speaking of the Ack, we were chatting while watching the festivities last night, and he pointed out that Amare Stoudemire was wearing a stylin' dookie gold rope chain. Now Amare might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but you have to admire his taste in retro jewelery. So of course you can't think about dookie ropes without thinking about the old school legends who made them famous. So that's the theme for this week's edition, famous dookie rope wearers. Now, if you can't guess the first, incredibly obvious choice, you likely need to go back and do your old school homework. Of course it's the Ruler, Slick Rick with The Ruler's Back from his debut, who took gold chain wearing to an insane other level. In addition we have someone who should've made an appearance on OSM way before now. It's Rakim, or in this case Eric B. & Rakim, with the classic I Ain't No Joke. Rakim is not only regarded as one of, if not the best, MC's of all time (and deservedly so) he's also one of the classic gold chain rockers.

Anyway, these are two very classic tracks, enjoy.
