East Coast Sessions:: Rose Cousins

As loyal readers know, the Ack is on is way back to the motherland (Ay yo Shane, Ack went to Japan? No, Halifax), and although he's been doing a fine job getting updates posted from the road, it's left me minding the fort. Or, more precisely, the hill. Well yesterday being a holiday here in Canada, I didn't have much time to spend on the hill, but it seemed a good oppertunity to disscuss something I've been meaning to post on: CBC's East Coast Sessions.

Some time ago, CBC Television (Canada's federally-funded broadcaster for those non-canucks not in the know), filmed a series of performances in Halifax featuring a bunch of talented musicians from Atlantic Canada. They've been showing these performances over the last couple months in a series called East Coast Sessions, which I think airs on Friday nights. I have yet to catch any of them, but luckily CBC is putting video of 3 or 4 songs from each show online. I think the performances are all quite good, so if you're looking to get familiar with Atlantic Canada's musical talent, or just want to see more of the folks you already love, go check it out.

The most recent episode featured Halifax based, PEI-bred singer-songwriter Rose Cousins. I've talked about Rose on the hill before, but now that she's the 2008 ECMA winner for female recording of the year, what more can I add to that? She's great live though, and her performance here captures a bit of that I think. So go check out Rose's performance, and I'll likely post on the other performers througout the summer.
