Old School Mondays:: Awesome Dre & MC Breed

It's a long weekend here in Halifax, and I'm writing this Sunday night to ensure you fine folks have your Old School fix bright and early, but it might not end up being very long as a result. It's Natal Day weekend here, if you're curious, where we celebrate the City's birthday. That's not to be confused with Joe Fatal Day weekend, where we celebrate the immortal Joe Burgos' verse on Live At The BBQ. That is an altogether separate, yet more awesome, holiday.

Anyway, one day last week we got an email from an associate of Awesome Dre, who felt that I called the awesome one a "subpar" MC when I featured him on OSM. This isn't true, as I was indeed a fan of Awesome Dre's debut (or At least I thought it was his debut I'm not really sure) You Can't Hold Me Back. I said as much in the post ("back in the day I did kind of think he was awesome"), and in reality the point I was trying to make was that the beef seemed a little one-sided, as Kool Moe Dee had likely never heard of Awesome Dre. Or this is what I assumed, but I've been told that is not the case, and in fact KMD and Dre often share a laugh these days about the whole affair.

That's a beautiful thing really, and it only seemed right to celebrate with a few more Awesome Dre songs, specifically the ones I mentioned in that original post: On The Rampage or Frankly Speaking. I know you'll enjoy those, but I wanted to find a little something else to pair with them, and I thought it would only be right to find another old school-er from Detroit. Well the closest I could come was Flint, home of the legendary MC Breed. Well Breed might not be legendary, but Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin certainly is, so enjoy that. And happy Natal day!
