Quick Hitters:: DJ Revolution

DJ Revolution is the house DJ for the longest running hip hop show on commercial radio, Sway & King Tech's World Famous Wake Up Show. Because of this, he's kind of a well-known name in hip hop circles, but perhaps you didn't know who he was, so now you do. He's also a rather excellent DJ, with a new album called King Of The Decks coming out on Duck Down records in September. And here's what he says about said album:

the connection between the DJ and the emcee has been severed. ‚ÄĚKing of The Decks" is my attempt at reconnecting it.

Since MC's in general decided to toss aside the DJ as an asset and integral part of their success from production to performance, the music has suffered tremendously. My goal is to re-introduce to the world what a DJ is.

As a certified rap-curmudgeon who can often be found complaining about the lack of DJ involvement in today's hip hop, that is a sentiment I can get behind. The lineup of guests on this album is also something I can get behind, as it's pretty full of underground heavyweights from both coasts.

Honestly though, if you have Freddie Foxxx on your album, you have pretty much won me over, but Damage, which features Queens hardrock Blaq Poet as well as Bumpy Knucks, is pretty damn solid ("you know the Bumpy Knuckles name equals knuckle game" I do!!!). The title track features the winning east-west connect of Sean P and Tash, while also being chock full of classic scratched lines. Hard to go wrong with that. KRS schools us all on what a DJ should really do on the aptly named The DJ. The Nintendo-esque sound of EY! provides a pretty catchy backdrop for Joel Ortiz and Termanology to crush it (the first dude extra-crushes it, I'm assuming it's Ortiz based on the track listing). Defari and Evidence have always been faves here at the hill, and they both deliver solid rap game raps on Spit Ridiculous and 20 Pro's & Con's respectively.

King Of The Decks looks like solid stuff in my humble, but here's the the track list if you still need more info:
