Quick hitters:: Lung Fung

myspace

Wow. I'm the first to admit I forget about songs, records, bands, and genres almost as soon as I discover them. I try to make little to-do lists so I remember to talk about bands, but it never works. Something new always comes along and changes the plan.

At some point, I was hyper sniper to post on Victoria's Colourbook. They released their debut EP on one of my favorite indie labels - Aaargh! Records (who have the cutest web site in the world) - and the 8-song gem is incredible. When Lung Fung came on randomly on my morning jog, I actually had to stop to remember who it was. After checking the ole Zune, my first question was, "how I could have forgot about these guys?"

Melodic, classic indie rock may seem like a plain descriptor, but one that most bands would kill for and this young Victoria band combines ear pleasing riffs with droning vocals and enough static and grit to warm my aging heart. Lung Fung explodes out of the gate with a simplicity that mirrors Jon McKiel's 123 Friends, but where McKiel is content to let the riff do the work, Colourbook constantly stretches and bends the notes, adding heavy weight, friction and anything other force they can think of trying to make the whole thing break. That's why it's so impressive that the young band keeps it together. The resultis one of the most infectious 3:27 seconds of music I've heard in forever.

Funny- the Radio3 Track of the Day was exactly this song on the same day you guys posted it. And with reason. It's a good'un.
