Quick Hitters:: No Gold

I swore the sun came out this morning, if only for a few brief moments. As I rubbed my eyes and shook the cobwebs from my brain, the gentle warmth of the morning light through the bedroom window made we want to stretch out, read the paper and ignore the world.

That could have been due to lack of sleep after the Ghost Bees show last night, but I am going to give the credit to mother nature. So with the oranges and golds lighting our room, I threw on a song or two by a band that makes it impossible for me to feel bad. A few notes from Vancouver's No Gold and I start to smile.

Summer in the tropics, beach bars; the loose pop jams they deliver are incredible. A lot of people seem to be going the Tropicalia/Talking Heads route these days, but what makes No Gold stand out for me is that they never seem to take themselves too serious. I mean, even in today's digital age they barely update their web site, but have stolen a lot of stages as the opener in Vancouver.

Here's two tracks to get you up and running, but trust me, checking back for updates is a fruitless endeavor. Hopefully, the new songs mean an EP or LP is on the way and with the weather we've been having lately, a taste of summer you can reach for in the gloomiest moments is exactly what the doctor ordered.
