News:: Music Nova Scotia Award Winners

BOX
Seeing as how we're celebrating the launch of our new Halifax-centric design today, and because Bryan alluded to them a couple times, today seems like as good a day as any to post the winners from the recent Nova Scotia Music Awards. Oh, that reminds me, did we mention that the hill was runner-up for best blog in the Coast's Best Of Halifax '08 poll? Well I guess we did now. But many thanks to anyone who cast a vote for us, and heads up Living Between Wednesdays, we're coming for you next year. Oh yes, we are.

Right then, the NS music awards. We're constantly talking up the talent that can be found in our home province, and in a refreshing change from most "major" awards, the NS awards are very much a validation of that. Just have a gander at some of the winners, most have been covered in some shape or form here at the hill:

Aliant Entertainer of the Year: The Tom Fun Orchestra

Album of the Year: Wintersleep - Welcome to the Night Sky

Female Artist Recording of the Year: Christina Martin - Two Hearts

Male Artist Recording of the Year: Old Man Luedecke - Proof of Love

Group Recording of the Year: Wintersleep - Welcome to the Night Sky

Galaxie Rising Stars New Artist/Group Recording of the Year: The Tom Fun Orchestra - You Will Land With A Thud

SOCAN Songwriter of the Year: Wintersleep (Paul Murphy, Tim D'Eon, Loel Campbell, Jud Haynes)

Video of the Year: Rebekah HiggsParables

Alternative Artist/Group Recording of the Year: Rich Aucoin - Personal Publication

Folk Recording of the Year: Old Man Luedecke - Proof of Love

Hip-Hop Recording of the Year: Ghettosocks - I Can Make Your Dog Famous

Loud Artist/Group Recording of the Year: Tomcat Combat - I'm Okay You're Okay

Pop/Rock Artist/Group Recording of the Year: Christina Martin - Two Hearts

Some really enjoyable albums in that list, if you're new to the hill, and haven't checked out any of those folks, I would get on it. So congrats, one and all, to the winners, and get ready for more NS & Maritimes coverage here on the hill

Where are the reviews/news on Acadian music? There are plenty of great Acadian musicians in our province.

Way to ignore your roots Nadeau...

hahaha, the joke is on you, I'm not Acadian! We're straight up northern NB french, no Acadian roots to speak of. When New Brunswick has a music awards ceremony, I'll cover that to big up my heritage.
