Quick hitters:: IDOW - Gypsophilia

<--- this could be you :: web site

The lineup for the 2nd Annual In the Dead of Winter festival was announced, and while there are some huge names (Daniel Ledwell, Justin Rutledge and Julie Holland on the same bill?!), one local act that might be new to a lot of music fans is Gypsophilia. With so much talent to choose from, you might be tempted to pass on the band with the funny name, but at the end of the day it's their set that might be the best the festival has to offer.

The band, originally, was influenced by the great French jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt but have expanded their sonic palette to include countless genres and throw in enough heavy bopping for even Lynne Thigpen to get behind. It's not too often a New Orleans dance party heads this far North, but Gypsophila is renowned for their ability to get the old and young to shake their money makers.

I know Saturday Night has a lot of great acts competing for your dollars, but with Norma Macdonald, Catherine MacLellan and Christina Couture opening up for a destined to happen, dancing in the aisles affair, The Bus Stop Theatre might be a better option than Buck 65, our personal favs The Olympic Symphonium or the talented Rebekah Higgs.

Here are a couple of tracks from their last record – Minor Hope – to give you an idea of the goodness that will occur.

Gypsophilia – Gyre
Gypsophilia - HIV Jump
