Quick Hitters:: Adele & Mick Boogie - 1988

My recent OSM post extolling the virtues of 1989 brought to mind something we were sent a few weeks ago: a collection of remixes done by Mick Boogie & friends which flips Adele's recent album using beats & sounds from 1988 hip hop. Now I now nothing about Adele, other than she appears to be the latest in a line of UK-produced "look, this little white girl has a huge voice! Amazing!" type singers, in the Joss Stone, Amy Crackhouse type mold. But, after given the old-school remix treatment, I can say I enjoy what Adele has to offer.

However, that being said, that alone isn't the reason for posting about this mix (which I should say Mick Boogie is giving away free here, so kudos to him). Whilst downloading, I couldn't help noticing that Mick has a link to Perez Hilton bigging up the mash-up, so I thought I'd have a look-see. Perez is on board, but the comments from his rabid flunkies were priceless. I know the deal with Perez, my wife used to be an avid reader, so I know it's a guilty pleasure for gossip junkies of the female persuasion (and amongst some of the non-female, Madonna-loving persuasion), but man, the reactions were comical. A sampling:

THE BIGGEST BOSS OF THEM ALL says: YAWN!!!

I'll shoot your eye out bitches says: Ew. No.

CutieLuLu: boring

Disturbed says: Who CARES what someone would sound like if they released an album 20 years ago!? That is the most assinine thing I have heard you say in a long time.

Disturbed says: Oh and if it was 20 years ago, Adele would have been what? 4? Bet that would have sounded real good.

mcflyislove says: perez. this is ridiculous. they are butchering her songs.

So basically, I had a laugh and realized that the fact that these clownshoes hated it made me want to post on it. Plus Cold Shoulder mixes Cha Cha Cha with I'm that type of guy, and Right As Rain has Adele singing over the entire Going Back To Cali instrumental, which I find strangely enjoyable. So download 1988 and play it for your wife or girlfriend, secure in the knowledge you're actually vibing to some rugged '88 beats, not some fluffy British pseudo R&B. Enjoy!
