Woodpigeon repackaged, rereleased & revisited

myspace

We already reviewed the fantastic Treasury Library Canada last year, and it hovered near the top of my playlist for months. Mark and his ever evolving band of musical misfits write songs that could only be described as beautiful, heartfelt, and surprisingly intimate for a band that seems to have mastered lush, orchestral folk.

The record was originally a DIY project, but they are gearing up for a proper release thanks to the wise people at Boompa records in Vancouver. TLC will be available to the masses and as an super added bonus, you get a second disc - Houndstooth Europa – as well. Here is the first song from Houndstooth Europa, and you can see how even when Mark strips down a lot of the layers – the key elements are no more than a gentle picked melody, some backing vocals and simple beat created with a tambourine/shaker – he can still write a song that you can’t ignore; one that makes you long for home, even as you run from it.

Listening to it now... I'm trying to think of what this reminds me of and am failing...

Maybe Sufjan? Everyone seems to drop that, even though I like Woodpigeon so much more.

...I do hear the Sufjan reference thrown around a lot as well - not that it is a bad thing....
