Contest:: Free T-Shirt(s) From The Yellow Bird Project

We like giving things away. People enjoy the free stuff, and we're happy to be able (with the assistance of some fine friends) to reward the folks who stop by our little outfit on a regular basis. So when we get the chance to give away something great, we're even more hyped than usual. So what's the something great? How about a free, indie band designed T-Shirt from the Yellow Bird Project?

We've talked about the Yellow Bird Project on the hill before, but basically they are a non-profit outfit that commissions some of the bigger names in the indie music world to create T-Shirt designs for them. YBP then takes the shirts that are the result of these designs, and sells them on their site with all the proceeds going to a charity that each individual artist chooses. It's a pretty fantastic idea in my opinion. Music enthusiasts get shirts, while at the same time donating to charity, and the artists get to steer some money to a cause that means something to them. There's a lot of win in there.

So who's involved? Broken Social Scene, The National, Rilo Kiley, Wolf Parade, Devendra Banhart, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Stars, Bon Iver, Hayden, and even our friend K-os. It's an impressive list, so if you'd like to get your hands on one, simply go here and join the YBP newsletter. That's it. No awkward email to us. No complicated three part quiz that many can submit the incorrect answers to. Just submit your email to YBP and you're entered for a chance to win one of the two shirts YBP is giving away exclusively to our readers.

Now, some music to celebrate this great contest. The latest YBP shirt was created by Northwest singer-songwriter Laura Veirs, so how about a fun little song from her. We were recently sent a song from The National off of another charitable endeavor, the Red Hot-benefiting Dark Was The Night, and since The National are also YBP participants, it makes sense to put that up here. And it only seems right to include the YBP's theme song: A Field Of Birds, from Swedish songsmith The Tallest Man on Earth. Enjoy, and win yourself a shirt.
