Quick Hitters:: Willie Isz

Time is short today (as per my usual right now), but since I covered everywhere but the US of A in my Mailbag post yesterday, I thought I'd send some love to our friends down south some love today. And I do mean down south, as the duo that comprise Willie Isz hail from the state of Georgia. Khujo Goodie likely needs no introduction if you were into hip hop at all in the 90's, because he is in fact Khujo Goodie from the Goodie Mob. Jneiro Jarel isz (see what I did there) the other half of Willie Isz, and although not as well know as Khujo, he brings some impressive and eclectic creds to the table.

The duo will be dropping their first album, Georgiavania (paying tribute, of course, to Georgia, and Jarel's current home in Philly), in May, and the good folks at Lex records were kind enough to send us a sampler of the record. The duo combine Jarel's spacey-electronic production and somewhat off-beat flows with Khujo's aggressive Southern sensibility into something that, I must admit, has me intrigued. I like what I hear of Willie Isz for a couple reasons:

1) It allows me to get into some electro-rap without thinking that all the bleeps and bloops are camouflaging some sub-par rapping, and I also don't need to worry that my pants are much too loose to be enjoying what I'm hearing.

2) It also allows me to, once-again, get into some dirty-south flows without feeling like the mere act of listening is sucking a disproportionate amount of brain cells from my thought sponge.

So there you go, ending your hump-day with an intriguing album to keep your an eye out for next month, you can't be mad at that. I've had the title track stuck in my head all day ("Where we from? GA! Where we from? PA!) and the hardcore flows over an Irish jig found on the solidly named The Grussle is pretty awesome, so I'll be on the lookout for the full-length.
