Friday Showstravaganza:: Old Man Luedecke, Kestrels & DJ Ollie Teeba!

This weekend in Halifax is all about one man with a three part name: Old Man Luedecke. The boyish-looking banjo maestro (and now Juno winner, as Proof of Love won for Best Roots/solo album of the year) plays two shows at the Company House this weekend - one tonight and a matinee tomorrow afternoon. And that matinee is the place to be if you want to go where the hill goes, as we'll be taking it in as part of a rare afternoon-evening show doubleheader.

Where will the hill be in the evening you ask? Well all signs point to Coconut Grove to see the reigning herohill/music Nova Scotia artist of the month, Kestrels, along with high-energy Toronto upstarts Arietta and Windsor, NS up & comers Alice Stops Time, who are new to me, but seem like they have something interesting to offer with their bluesy, indie surf-rock. So if you'll be at either of those shows, come say hi, we'll be the two old dudes asleep at the back by 10pm. I keed, I keed, we're still cool. Kind of.

But that's not all the action to be had this weekend, as tonight sees a couple solid rock & roll shows at Gus' and The Seahorse - with The Danger Bees & friends holding it down at the former, and The Grass & The Stance at the latter. Either of those would be a good time, but if you've got your dance pants on and want to go for yours, the Paragon is the place to be. The Herbaliser's Ollie Teeba will be doing a set there tomorrow night, and although this made me remember I do have one Herbaliser album in my collection, I wanted to mention this show for two reasons: 1) saying and writing Ollie Teeba is tremendously enjoyable. 2) This is also serving as a release party for the new video from Ghettosocks, and considering his last video was pretty excellent, I imagine this one shall be the same. So get out there and enjoy.

ps. As you can see, our show listings for next week are pretty sparse, so if you've got something going on, let us know (via comment or email).
