Five Funky Stories:: Matt from The Prospectors' Union

You cannot stop the herohill random question machine, you can only hope to contain it. So in that vein, our random question-fueled HPX preview-post series continues with a true friend of the hill: Matt Charlton of The Prospectors' Union.

Matt is a truly talented man about town here in Halifax, not only running a PR company that has helped a ton of local bands from this part of the world get heard out there in the cyberspace, but he's also the driving force behind two great local bands. One of those bands, The Prospectors' Union, is a collective of Halifax musicians (Daniel Ledwell, Christina Martin, John Mullane, Jason MacIssac, Andrew Sisk) that provide a pretty amazing sonic backdrop for Charlton's roots-y storytelling. We thought enough of his debut EP, Syracuse to slap our artist of the month tag on the band, and you can catch Matt and the other prospector's at the Just Friends Brunch at Gus' Pub at mid-day on Saturday, Oct. 24th. Now then, the random questions:

Name: Matt Charlton
Band: The Prospectors' Union

1. If you worked as the maitre d' at a fancy restaurant, and Phil Collins came in wearing only a t-shirt, would you let him sit down?

As in he had no pants on? He's really terrible regardless though, eh? Maybe if he was pantless, my mind would be taken off the fact that he sang "Pseudio" for a second or two. Maybe I'd prefer that. I think that's true...I'd rather see Phil Collins' penis than hear his music. It'd be a weird one, I bet. Probably shaped like a pig's ear.

2. Chad Kroeger sits unaware beside a cream pie, do you do the deed?

Yes. Same answer if the pie was replaced with a shotgun as well.

3. Where was your first live performance?

Tribeca!

4. Your preferred Neil: Diamond or Young?

That's not even a question.

5. Name one thing about the Halifax music scene that either excites or annoys you.

So many great bands here. It's unreal...Dog Day, Heavy Blinkers, York Redoubt, Bloodhouse, most of my daily listening comes from people I pass on the street routinely.
