Five Funky Stories:: Dan from Grassmarket
By all accounts, our random-question themed preview-post series for this year's Halifax Pop Explosion has been going swimmingly, but after re-reading some of the previous posts, I realized something was missing: bluegrass. That just won't do, and so into the void steps young Halifax trio Grassmarket.

Well, bluegrass, or "nuanced folk-pop" as Grassmarket is described. Either way, Grassmarket are playing on Thursday, Oct. 23rd at the company house along with Tamara Lindeman's alter-ego The Weather Station, Winnipeg's Magnificent Sevens. Grassmarket's last album, Waiting, got the Ack seal of approval, and as it turns out, Grassmarket has just released a new album full of warm, country-influenced songs called Port City (love the Paul Hannon cover art for the album, by the way) in time for HPX. So they'll have plenty of solid material for their set, but now let's see how Dan MacCormack from the band makes out against the question machine:
Name: Daniel MacCormack
Band: Grassmarket
Web: www.grassmarket.ca
1. Super tight pants on dudes: Yes! or Noooooooooooooooo!
This is wholly dependent on the dude and the pants at hand. So, like, shiny KISS super-tight, or frayed cowboy Jason Stackhouse super-tight? The former, maybe sometimes but usually no; the latter, an unqualified YES.
2. Name your all-time favorite Canadian album.
The Band: The Band/brown album; Sarah Harmer: You Were Here.
3. Patio Lanterns, Go For Soda, or WFT does that mean?
What am I doing to make you so sad?
4. CBC or an Ipod/CD?
Usually CBC because it's harder to lose or scratch.
5. Name a song you love that might surprise people.
Travis Tritt's "It's a Great Day To Be Alive." There's hard times in the neighbourhood, but why can't every day be just this good?
