Five Funky Stories:: Mark from The Got To Get Got
You may be aware of this already, but today is October 1st. That would mean there's only around 20 days until HPX '09 kicks off, and so I think you can start getting excited. And what better way for us to foster that excitement then with another random question segment with someone performing during HPX's super-awesome & fantastic herohill showcase? There is no better way, so I give you Mark Mullane from the also super-awesome The Got To Get Got.

Hopefully you're familiar with this Halifax seven-piece (they've been bigger & smaller since their founding in 2000) and their excellent debut full-length, Sahalee, but if you aren't then you should check the Ack's review of the album (which, by the way, made the Ack'shighly mildly controversial "Favorite Local Releases of '09 Thus Far" list). As mentioned, TGTGG are part of the herohill showcase that goes down on Wednesday, Oct. 21st at The Seahorse, and also features Bruce Peninsula, Valleys, and York Redoubt. But now, on to the questions:
Name: Mark Mullane
Band: The Got To Get Got

1. Why do people still say 'We're doing an East Coast tour!' when they're only going as far as Quebec?
I have no idea. Most people are shockingly bad at geography, shockingly bad. Who says that? TGTGG ain't having it. No sir.
2. Donairs: yes or no? If yes, who has the best? If no, boo.
Yes. K.O.D. on Quinpool Road. I have a strict rule of only eating Donairs when entertaining guests from out of town. Kieran Roy (Arts & Crafts Records) and Leon Taheny from Germans/Sebastien Grainger are my favorite Donair guests. When Leon is in town, if he eats three meals a day, four will be donairs.
3. Name your all-time favorite Canadian album.
Spool "Callous Makers b/w Forget All The Clean Things" 7" on Derivative Records.
4. What is the worst experience you've had on the road since you started touring?
Opening for Tortoise at the Middle East in Boston, MA way back in 1995 and not watching Tortoise in their prime because we had no idea who they were and kicking ourselves later..
5. Dream show...who plays with you/for you?
The Cramps w/ Bill Callahan.
