Weekend Fun:: Jenn Grant unreleased Echoes b-sides

We here in Halifax know that that Jenn Grant is a sweetheart. Her voice is so pure that she can blend in with Symphony NS, charm you with a playful, forest elf like ditty, or as Echoes showed, hit you with a much heavier, emotional weight and still hold your attention. Sure, she’s still willing to break into a Ghostbusters inspired encore if that’s what the evening calls for, but seeing one of NS’s best singers stand up and mature in front of us just proved that her voice is one we will be hearing for years and years.

She and her band are getting ready to record some new songs - which is fantastic news - but in the meantime Jenn has graciously offered up three demos that didn’t make the cut for Echoes. If all demos & b-sides sounded this good, well, the world would be a very great place. The beautiful strings and piano of Good Woman, sobre feel of Last Waltz or heartbreak and pace of the hard hitting Liar could have all stood alongside any of the tracks on Echoes, but since they didn’t, they make for a perfect start to a sunny weekend.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, and try to support the Long Live the Queen Festival. It’s great to see people trying to launch a community festival, and your attention will only help it survive to see Year 2.
