It’s July and we’re posting on the 2010 Halifax Pop Explosion, which takes place from October 19th to the 23rd. So yeah, it’s good and early, but so what? The good people at HPX have recently announced the first acts slated for this year’s festivus, and I think there’s more than enough quality there to justify this 3-months-in-advance preview.
How about The Hold Steady, The New Pornographers (avec Neko Case), Handsome Furs, and Sloan for starters? I’m no expert, but I’m thinking that if you’ve been looking for a show rammed with college kids freaking the hell out, that Hold Steady show is the answer. The New Pornographers with Neko Case should be rather impressive, ditto for the Handsome Furs. I heard a little something about that Sloan show perhaps being a special one, so stay tuned for some info on that front.
And there’s more: Basia Bulat with Symphony Nova Scotia, Old Man Luedecke, High on Fire, Torche, North of America, Jason Collett, Rockets Red Glare, Kylesa, the Great Lake Swimmers, Bad Vibrations, Great Bloomers, The Famines, Jon McKiel, Mt. Royal, Silly Kissers, and Wordburglar. Good stuff for as far as initial announcements go, so if you’ve been thinking about coming to town, hopefully this will help win you over. It’s quite a good time I have to say – I mean sure, NXNE and POP Montreal are also excellent – but here in Halifax the rushing around is kept to a minimum as you can be at any venue in about 10 minutes. Oh, and we have Donairs.
