Don’t look now, but it’s October, and what goes on in the month of October here in Halifax? Why the legendary Halifax Pop Explosion of course. As we’ve done during the last two festivals, we’re lending our name and input to a showcase during this year’s edition, and so I’d highly recommend that you come out to the Company House on Saturday, October 23rd to see the eclectically excellent lineup of IT KILLS, The Mountains & The Trees, Boats, and Ghettosocks. Of course there are a number of other excellent shows taking place during the festival, so peruse the schedule and pick out some shows to attend.
So then, to help countdown the days until HPX 2010 kicks off, we thought we’d bring you some music from a few of the acts that will be playing the festival, starting with Halifax’s Bike Rodeo. The quartet will be kicking things off Friday night, October 22nd at the Paragon, and will be followed by English Words, Great Bloomers (who have a brand new 7″ that the Ack enjoyed a great deal), and The Hold Steady. That should be a rather good night of rock & roll right there.
Bike Rodeo’s bio describes their sound “draws influence from 60′s Garage rock, infused with punk rock energy”, and we have it on rather high authority that they are “perhaps one of the best bands in Halifax…amazing backup vocals and sweet tunes.” The free four song EP on their Bandcamp site, Sleepwerk, does nothing to dissuade me of this so consider making Bike Rodeo and the Paragon on Friday night if you’re hitting HPX.
