Forest City Lovers

With HPX looming next week, I’ve been trying my level best to get some coverage up on the site for our fair city’s biggest music festivus, but with it being Thursday, the day we usually put up some of the various videos we come across in our blogging travails, I thought I’d change things up a bit. Ha, just kidding, this is an HPX-themed edition of Videos Hits sucka!

Well you can hardly blame us can you? It’s kind of a big musical todo in these parts, and in our guise as King of the Dipshits as far as music blogs east of Montreal go, it’s kind of our duty to discuss it, so discuss it we will! That discussion is in video form in this case, but who’s complaining about that really. Toronto charmers Forest City Lovers have a new video for Tell Me, Cancer off of their latest release Carriage, which features pixie-esque lead singer Kat Burns signing as she strolls through various parts of Toronto – I’m almost afraid for her during the night shots, I want to scream “why are you walking through there alone at night!?!?”, but then I realize I’m getting too old and also it’s been quite some time since I lived in Toronto. Anyway, you can catch the Lovers on Thursday, Oct 21st at the Foggy Goggle with local favorites Dance Movie and Construction and Destruction, so if you’re looking to rock out in a mellow, low-key fashion that night, this should be your destination.

There will be nothing mellow or low-key about Thursday night at The Paragon, where TO’s Dinosaur Bones will be part of the trifecta (also Quivers & Amos the Transparent) opening for Sloan. The fact that Sloan is doing a Twice Removed set is getting all the press, this energetic young Toronto outfit is certainly worth the price of admission. Now that I’ve talked up their rockin’ qualities, here’s an old time aviation-themed video for thir somewhat quiet tune Ice Hotels….makes sense to me.

We can’t put up three straight TO videos now can we? So let’s go with the gent who is traveling one of the longest distances for HPX, Tuam Ireland’s So Cow, a noise-pop type outfit helmed by Brian Kelly. I’ll gladly admit I knew nothing about these guys, but after giving them a listen, I’m intrigued, there’s a ramshackle soul to their sound that brings elements of Apollo Ghosts to mind (I know, high praise indeed in these parts, considering the Ack was pushing hard for AG to win anytthing and everything this past year). Well then, this makes next Friday’s show at Gus’, also featuring Quaker Parents, DUZHEKNEW, and the excellent Play Guitar a pretty excellent choice. Enjoy the vids.
