Me Fault ’10:: Bare Beats - I Won’t Sleep Again

I’m fairly certain this record from London producer Bare Beats belongs on in the Me Fault series of posts we’ve been doing to highlight records we somehow missed this past year, but I’m not exactly sure when it was sent my way. What I do know is that it was sent to me by Modulok and the folks at Takaba Records, and since I’ve long been a fan of Modulok and his work (including his collabo album Bare Beats), I was eager to have a listen.

Not surprisingly, I like what I heard once I gave the EP/album a listen (it breezes by at 7 songs, but it has “Part 1″ in the title, so one has to assume that a second edition might be coming soon). Not sure how well known Bare Beats is in the UK, but he’s clearly a skilled producer that is comfortable that vary across the sound spectrum. I say this because the difference in tone between the first few songs (especially the Modulok-featuring opener Clap Ya Hands which has a stark, glitchy, almost industrial-sounding beat) and the incredibly warm centrepiece of the EP, I Was Just… which features UK vocalist Rosie Greenwood, is quite impressive.

I don’t think this here post is as overdue as the first couple Me Fault posts I’ve done, but I’ve been meaning to get something up on it for a little while. So, if you’re in the mood for a quality little slice of hip hop inspired music with a UK twist, I Won’t Sleep Again Part 1 is a great choice.
