Merry Freemas:: Free Canadian Hip Hop for All

Tron Legacy Mixtape

So then, all your shopping done and dusted? Well then let ask you this, how about you? You get yourself a little something nice? I hope you did, you’ve gotta remember numero uno after all. But just in case you forgot yourself in all the holiday prep, I got you a little something.

Yes, if you happen to have asked for some Canadian hip hop for xmas, yer man Naedoo has you covered with some links to 5 free top notch Canadian hip hop releases. So then, let’s get to the links and a brief rundown for each. Enjoy.

Cadence Weapon:: Tron Legacy Mixtape
If you’re on the hill, I’m going to assume you know the deal with Roland Pemberton. If you don’t know, he has a new pay-what-you-can Tron-themed mixtape that features Rollie spitting over some rather well-known tracks with a few special guests (respect for having a Birdapres feature - there’s a guy who needs a new album). It includes Always Strapped which features CW and Buck 65 discussing the virtues of seat belts, and there’s also a donair reference, so I’m on board.

Noah23:: Blue Lunar Night & Enter the 23rd Chamber
Good news, I’m actually giving you 6 free ones instead of 5, as scientific and/or psychedelic Guelph MC has recently released two freestyle mixtape albums, Blue Lunar Night which is “inspired by the Based Freestyles of Lil B and the music of Blue Sky Black Death” and Enter the 23rd Chamber which “is what it sounds like”. So double your freestyle fun right there.

Something Good:: Just Add Water And Stir (Remix EP 2010)
I pretty much loved the debut album from Halifax/MTL’s Something Good, so I was happy to randomly discover they recently released a remix EP. It’s got peppy reduxes from Halifax’s Tape Notes and Ritchcraft, as well as one from the always excellent Fresh Kils, and the results are rather excellent. Put this on at your holiday par-tay, and you’ll get butts moving I’d say.

Bix:: Muneshine & Bix - Status Symbol Remixes
I stumbled upon this a while ago, so I thought I’d finally get around to recommending it. Bix has produced for many Backburner-affiliated folks, and he’s done some of my favorite Ghettosocks tracks of late, and so an album of his remixes for Muneshine’s Status Symbol was in my wheelhouse for sure.

Alex Dimez:: Twenty Dimez
How about some TO hardcore, or rather an album from Toronto MC that is perhaps a bit more hardcore than the other albums of linked. Actually, I’m not even sure hardcore is the proper description, but Alex does have his own line of bongs, which I find kind of hardcore. Anyhoo, he’s got a free EP available through Hand’Solo records that has some solid production backing his street-influenced underground flows, so give it a listen.
