Contest:: Win (3) 7″ from New Scotland Records

It’s Tuesday and that means a steady stream of new releases hit the market today. Even with some big names, the most exciting in this corner of the country are three tasty slabs of vinyl from New Scotland Records.

The 45s may have all been recorded in the warming confines of Scotland Yard under Joel Plaskett’s watchful eye/ear, but the end results couldn’t be more different. Herohill favorite David Myles offers up a taste of the fantastic, honey coated sounds he and Plaskett produced on Turn Time Off courtesy of the honest restraint that makes up “Out of Love.” The gentle warmth of the straightforward gem is nicely contrasted by the uptempo bluegrass b-side, “Wrong So Wrong”, letting Myles prove he doesn’t need the soulful warmth and can get the crowd stomping as easily as he can make them sway.

The second release finds lesser known, local cult hero Matthew Grimson’s unique, heartbroken words given a Plaskett window dressing. Equal parts Dylan, carnival experiment and humor, those new to his music could do worse than discovering Grimson’s voice in this appealing setting. Last but not least are three Stooges approved scorchers from the soon to be defunct Myles Deck & The Fuzz. This is probably the last piece of recorded material from the band, so all things considered, snatching one of 500 copies is probably a keepsake not to be overlooked.

Heard these tracks on Radio3 Tuesday morning; they sounded great. I love what Joel is doing for the East Coast scene right now. Would love to have these in my own collection.

Certainly going to have to check out more of David Myles back catalogue after having heard this track.
