Old School Mondays:: Greetings 2011 Edition

Well I’m enjoying the last day of my rather long holiday hiatus from both my actual job and my un-official job here at the hill. So while I don’t have a lot of time for OSM today, I wanted to do the same as I did last year and post a few songs from the year that would be commencing 20 years ago, in this case, 1991, which would put us smack in the middle of what may be the awesomest time for hip hop according to that Ack and I.

So how would the Ack and I have been rolling 20 years ago? Well last year I discussed it thusly:

Hey now, 20 years, that is something. I would have been mid-way through grade 10, and certainly looking awkward whilst sporting some Starter sports-related gear. The Ack would have been Polo & Deck-shoe’d out, whilst sporting a part you could Ginsu a tin-can with. That’s just how we rolled, and if you are as old as us, you likely also cringe a little looking back, but also hopefully you smile a bit and think back on that time fondly, as we mostly do.

That pretty much nails it I’d say, and now for some 1991 songs. I’m restricting it to 5 songs, but holy crap, 1991 was a pretty amazing year in hip hop - just check Ego Trip’s list of best singles from that year if you don’t believe me. So needless to say, I had a hell of a time just picking 5 songs here, and so who knows, I may have to do a part 2 for this one next week. Anyhoo, I’ll leave you with 5 songs that mean something or other to me for one reason or another, and that I likely bumped like crazy 20 years ago. Happy New Year, I hope 2011′s a good one for you.
