Quick Hitters:: More free music from Doug Hoyer

If I was still hip with the kids (or maybe Riveria Regime), I’d simply drop a lot of poorly spelled, ALL-CAPS slang, some exclamation points and let you know that “DOUG HOYER IS KILLIN’ITZ DEEZ DAYS!!!!”

In all seriousness, Hoyer’s last freEP was an experiment with bigger arrangements and the results were infectious, but this time around Hoyer has exceeded all of my expectations. He still brandishes his uke like Buddy does his sword but on this amazing duet, “Oh, The Wind Will Blow”, the picked notes are only a small piece of the puzzle.

Electronics, cello, and Jessica Jalbert’s tender vocals all come together (thanks to Calvin McElroy’s production) and help push Doug’s voice from sad clown syndrome you associate with crooning troubadours to the charismatic longing, heartfelt emotion that speaks to the masses. Hoyer breaks free from the shackles of standard uke driven music (you won’t hear people settling for stock descriptors like quirky, cute, precious, or clever for this track) and creates a beautiful melancholy pop symphony that needs to be heard. Honestly, this jam will make your Friday 138% better.
