Quick Hitters:: Northern Primitive

For the next week or so, I’ll be on vacation so I threw together a few quick hitters about bands that have been sounding great coming out of my headphones lately. Talk about dedication. Almost makes you want to vote for us (again, maybe? plz?) in the CBC3 Searchlight contest doesn’t it?

Although this band comes straight out of Welland, Ontario Northern Primitive, you could have told me they came to us on a steamer ship from across the pond and I wouldn’t have raised an eyebrow.

Chock-o-block full of bluesy, indie rock stompers, the three-piece sounds almost like Canada’s response to the endless calls from snotty, young UK garage bands. The fuzz and energy is unrelenting as they are scuzzy almost to the point of punk rawk, but what makes the songs work is the smoky, kaleidoscope bliss hidden amongst the power chords.

Basically, Northern Primitive makes me wish metal lovin’, denim destroyers in shop class actually hung out with the hippies in high school. Better music, more weed and less Phish. We all win.
