Friday Fun:: Edmontonia - Volume Two

Edmontonia - Volume TwoBack-to-back Edmonton-related posts? Back-to-back Edmonton-related posts. Why? Well because when I think of fun Canadian cities, I think of Edmonton. Paul Coffey is my all-time favorite hockey player, Henry “Gizmo” Williams is my favorite all-time CFL player, and if you know my history, you know I’m an Edmonton rap-enthusiast of the highest order. Plus we were sent the link to a great (free) compilation featuring some of the excellent musical talent burbling out of The City of Champions.

Do people still call Edmonton The City of Champions? I don’t actually care, as I plan to keep doing so, and Edmontonia Volume Two shows that the capital of Alberta is champ-caliber as far as indie music is concerned. And they’re looking to spread the word, as the comp’s description puts it:

These little compilations are for everyone but they are mainly curated from the perspective of introducing the world outside Edmonton to the exhaustive wealth hiding within it.

There are hill faves aplenty on just this version alone: Mitchmatic, Wool on Wolves, the awesome Falklands, veteran emcee Touch, and the ubiquitous Mr. Pemberton, but alt-folksters like Liam Trimble and DoT are pleasant discoveries. So we’ll be keeping an ear out for the future Edmontonia compilations, and I’d suggest you do the same.
