Party People…Party People….can ya’ll get funky?!?! (said in Afrika Bambaataa Planet Rock electro voice, natch) The summer is rapidly flying by is a blaze of, well, rain and fog for yer pals out here in Halifax, so that’s kind of a bummer. BUT, the end of summer also has a silver lining, football season!!!! Sorry, little excited there, but the real silver lining for music fans in Halifax is that the initial acts for the 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion have been announced. You know what that means….huge list of said acts in a blob of text goes here:
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, The Thermals, Fucked Up, Chad VanGaalen, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Titus Andronicus, Plants and Animals, Braids, Dan Mangan, Twin Shadow, PS I Love You, Timber Timbre, Ohbijou, Chixdiggit, Amelia Curran, Rich Aucoin & Friends, JEFF the Brotherhood, Demon’s Claws, Hip Club Groove, Miracle Fortress, Bonjay, Trouble Andrew, The Juan Maclean, Suuns, Library Voices, Dog Day, Gobble Gobble, Kidstreet, Les Breastfeeders, Snailhouse, Graham Wright & the Good Times Band, Wildlife, Bruce Peninsula, Doug Paisley, Olympic Symphonium, Unexpect, Southern Shores, The Spring Standards, Olenka and the Autumn Lovers, and Murder By Death.
Not bad at all, right? As far as initial lineups go, that’s none to shabby. Some hill faves up in the mix, plenty of Canadian indie darlings from the last couple years, the RAA return to HPX (1st time since their appearance at the CoGo (RIP) for night 2 of the Herohill Hearts Music showcase in ’08), some beloved CDN acts from yesteryear re-appear, plenty of dancey acts to induce some tight-pants shaking, and there’s some garage & pop-punk acts in their to boot. Wristbands & passes are available now, so get snatch one up while they are still available.
