A few weeks ago, herohill opened the front doors and hosted a private show with the oh so charming Jenn Grant and Daniel Ledwell. Basically, the idea is simple: We guilt bands — Dan Mangan & The Crackling succumbed to our incessant pleas for the inaugural event — into showing up, cook the guests and the band a huge spread and offer up some drinks, then they play a few songs for the hill and our closest friends. Well, our closest friends and Trevor Murphy.

 

Each time we’ve had the intention of doing something with the recordings but never seen to find the time. These videos would have sat on my hard drive for years, but since the lovely couple is fixing to get get married this weekend, I thought why not share them with you now? Exactly.

 

The night was a huge success; Daniel Ledwell premiered some of his new songs and I was blown away. The simple picked melodies oozed the same powerful charisma and tender emotion that Tom Brosseau has perfected. I’ll share the videos for Daniel’s set later because he’s playing the herohill HPX showcase and we have a mega post coming soon, but mainly because he refuses to tell me the god damn titles.

 

Jenn and Dan then laughed through a six-song set of Jenn’s latest and of course, greatest. I’ve long since thought Jenn’s inviting personality is as big a strength as her lovely voice and song writing chops, so hearing her sing with just the support of her acoustic, a keyboard or a trumpet let her win over the entire room.

 

We made it through the whole night without any noise complaints, broken stem ware and only got told off by Tara Thorne once on twitter. That my friends, is a good night. Here are four of Jenn’s songs, and a stern warning for Netflix. Enjoy!
