Here’s a fact: The Church shows during HPX are always a lot of fun. Thanks to the untimely closing of yet another bar here in Halifax, the North Street Church will make its debut as an HPX venue (I think? I can’t recall any shows taking place there during a recent festival). I don’t think anyone will mind the change of venue, and if you’re thinking of heading to one of the shows there, the Friday night one featuring a headlining set from The Darcys is a good bet.
This will be a landmark set for the Toronto outfit, as not only will it mark the first time that their debut album will be available to buy (Arts & Crafts is putting it out, after a very long gestation period), but it will also be a celebration of the fact that the band formed five years ago in our very city. Sounds like reason enough for a party if you ask me. They will be joined on the bill by two rather rocking Montreal outfits in Amanita Bloom and Les Jupes, as well as young/old school Halifax rock & rollers Gloryhound, so while it may not be the stereotypical quiet/acoustic affair one associates with a church show, it should be pretty damn interesting and worth checking out.
