To be completely transparent, I’ll let you in on a secret: If our showcase wasn’t on the same night, this is the HPX show I’d be most excited about. Growing up and loving pop punk, Chixdiggit and the Ghoulies were two of my favorite bands. The one-two punch of “Where’s Your Mom” and “Henry Rollins is No Fun” and the familiar chug of “Tunnel of Love” are ingrained in my brain. In fact, after seeing the Ghoulies crush a set in Pittsburgh, I named my new cat Kepi.

Flash forward about 10 years and HPX has done some heavy lifting and now lucky music fans get to hear Chixdiggit to back up Kepi Ghoulie ( Boomtown Rats cover, please!!!!??) and also deliver a greatest hits set. Oh, and that’s not even mentioning local acts Tongan Death Grip — a band that delivered one of the best albums of the year — and Weekend Dads — fresh off their release of a rock solid 7″ on It’s Alive Records — to fill out the bill.

Interesting fact: I think I saw both the Ghoulies and Chixdiggit with Weekend Dad’s bass player James Robertson. More interesting fact: He got kicked out of at least one of these shows. Here’s a sample of what Weekend Dads brings to the table and some “Miso Ramen” courtesy of Chixdiggit.
