In the words of our old pal O’Shea Jackson: Once again it’s on. The 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion begins today, and with an openning day lineup that is bigger than ever, Halifax’s biggest annual music event is starting it’s 19th year with a vengenace.
Of course, in true hill-ian fashion, we’re both busier than ever as we greet this year’s festivities, and as such you likely won’t find us out & about until Thursday night, but rest assured we’ll HPX like the old-ass champs we are once we get out there. So then, how about another obligatory reminder about the HPX 2011 showcase & BBQ we’re invovled with this year? Although I made it sound otherwise just now, those are two different events taking place at the most excellent Company House, with the Showcase taking place this Friday night (feat. Daniel Ledwell, Adam and the Amethysts, Chris Page, and The Wheat Pool). The BBQ will take place Saturday afternoon (kicking off at 1PM I do believe, and will feature some yummy food as well as music from Jon McKiel, Deadhorse & Chris Page. Plus, we’ll be there with an arsenal of high fives for any and all comers.
But that’s the end of the week, and this is now. How to get yourself prepped for all the madness that is about to ensue? Well the good folks of CKDU put together a bunch of podcasts over the last few weeks with songs from many of the HPX acts, so that might help. You could also check these guides from the almighty Briggins on cheap HPX goodness for students and HPX survival tips or you can get some inside scoop on the acts playing the festival from AUX’s coverage of HPX 2011.
Or you could just enjoy these jams below from some of the acts playing tonight and just hit the ground running when things kick off tonight – the world is your donair-seasoned oyster, so make it happen.
