HPX ’11:: Rattail

Hot damn, this might be the jam of the week. Rattail, a ramshackle collection of guitars, drums and energy, have offered up a sneak peak at their soon to be released LP — out on Unfamiliar on October 15th — and the first track, “In Bloom”, is insane. How insane? Just look at the poorly constructed, run-on sentence I used to describe it! It’s like I’m the Peter King of music bloggers. CITRUS-Y BEERS FOR ALL!

“In Bloom” has the shimmer and jangle of a spacey, indie rock anthem, but Rattail wisely keeps the rough edges intact and intensity in the mix. The three-minute surge hints at the great unknown, but never floats aimlessly hoping to find it. The second song, “I Swim” is more in line with what we’ve come to expect from the TO band; rough, full of across the pond piss and vinegar, and catchy as f@ck, but even still, the band keeps reaching for the next branch, climbing until we are using our arms for flight, instead of our feet for support.
