Dunno about you, but on a day like today where we got socked in the grill by winter for the initial time this year, the songs on Overton Window, the second EP from Rain Over St. Ambrose, feel like the perfect prescription for any pangs of preemptive winter blues. I briefly detailed the circumstances of the band’s formation in a post on their initial EP, and the growth evident on Overton Window only reinforces the notion that Cory Leblanc made the right decision when he decided to come out from behind the drums and form this band with his brother and some other talented Yarmouth musicians.
Whether it’s with a slow-burning, sing-along like EP opener “Chemtrails of Happiness”, or the more straight-ahead, soulful rock of “Your Audience” or “Campfires”, Rain Over St. Ambrose are doing nothing to dissuade me of the notion that they could be one of this province’s best rock & roll bands. Leblanc appears to have a knack for writing big, catchy tunes, and the chops to deliver them, while the band sounds better than ever. Are big things ahoy for this south shore outfit? Let’s all stayed tuned to find out.
Seems worth mentioning that Acadian Embassy, the fine folks who put out Overton Window, are having an Xmas sale, so you can buy the vinyl 12″ of Quiet Parade’s Please Come Home (We Hate It Here Without You) and get a free CD copy of this EP. That’s a good deal right there.
