Christmas Party:: Sloan, David Myles & Mike O’Neil

Once again it’s on! By “it” I of course mean Christmas, or whatever festive occasion you celebrate at this time of year, and by “on” I mean that now is the time that everyone under the sun looks for some free press, errr, rather, they look to brighten everyone’s spirit by recording a holiday song of some kind. And I’m into it. Despite our curmudgeon-liness, once December hits, we’re into the holiday jams, just like everyone else - well I am, I’m pretty sure the Ack hates Xmas, but that is neither here nor there. This year we have our amazing Advent Calendar on the go to help recount some of our favorite songs & bands from the past year, but we had to bring back our Christmas Party post series for the first Friday in December.

Really, if you were to claim that these posts are just an excuse to post Boney M pic, you’d be half right, but in reality most of these holiday songs are created in the name of a good cause, so we’re happy to put them up. For example, we have not 1, not 2, but 3 holiday songs to post today from which all proceeds will go to food banks. Sloan has a version of 12 Days of Christmas up for sale, to benefit Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank, while David Myles has recently posted his take on I’ll Be Home For Christmas in support of New Brunswick’s food banks.

If you’re looking for a full album of charity-supporting holiday cheer, there’s the Zunior Holiday Blender 2011 compilation which features “Canadian artists blending classic Canadian songs with vintage holiday lyrics and melodies”. Always wanted to hear Frosty sung a la Neil Young? Mike O’Neil has you covered. Been waiting for Haltown “guy in a bar with a guitar” classic Barrett’s Privateers to be made into a Xmas tune? Dog is Blue done did it. It’s a lot of fun, and the proceeds also go to the Daily Bread Food Bank, so get in the spirit and buy some Holiday Jamz!
