Sorry for the lateness of this week’s OSM, but Sunday was my birthday, and so I celebrated by watching my beloved Saints trounce the naughty Lions and took a break from the Sunday night OSM prep. But as you might know, if you’re a super-dedicated hill-fan or the only Naedoo-stalker known to man, I share my birth date with Jay-Z. So that often makes my birthday related OSM’s easy (Master Ace is also a December 4th-er), but I don’t want to be putting up the same old songs over and over again. So let’s mix things up a bit, shall we?
Now I’m old, but thankfully for all of us, Jay-Z is 5 years older than me, so his canon stretches back to the very start of the 90′s (if you include even his cameo vocal appearances, which I certainly do), and so that gives us a lot of early material to pull from. So how about a verse from Hov on a Clark Kent remix of 90′s boy-soul group Hi-Five’s She’s Playing Hard To Get? Done. A posse cut appearance with the legendary Big Daddy Kane on the excellent Show & Prove (right before a classic Ason Unique verse no less!) from the oft-forgotten Daddy’s Home? Got it. Should we finish with something from the Jiggaman’s first 12″? I think we should, so here’s the Big Jazz (which I assume is Jay’s old mentor Jaz-O) Remix of In My Lifetime.
Enjoy the Jay jams, and here’s to me, the best there is.
