With apologies to Frank Yang’s twitter slogan, I think the new fre-EP from Slow Down, Molasses should pique your interest. For anyone unfamiliar with the band the Saskatchewan collective, just know they write songs that hit with the drama and intensity of post-rock, but still offers the tenderness of the music more often played on long, straight prairie roads.

When I talked about the band’s last album, one I mistakenly left off my Favorites-of ’11 list, I mentioned that the band would be perfect to soundtrack a Friday Night Lights like drama based on a local hockey team, and honestly, that’s as big a compliment as I can give (someone please write this show, now).

Slow Down, Molasses is heading overseas and decided to let some of their friends manipulate the songs from Walk into the Sea. Hearing a fresh take on “Lights” or “Bodies” is always welcome, but the two remixes that jump out of the speakers are Foam Lake’s electro reworking of “Late Night Radio” and (herohill’s favorite SK producer) Factor’s overhaul of “Walk Into The Sea.” Gone is the folky foundation of the song, and in its place is a minimal composition that eases come downs and soundtracks lonely, drug hazed sunrises.

With the release of a video on NME and a slew of dates across the pond, the stars have finally aligned for this hard working, talented collection of musicians and the Bodies of Water: Remixes EP is a nice way of saying thanks to the friends and fans that helped them get this far. Grab it on Feb 21st, but in the interim, just let yourself sink into the talent Factor brings to the mix.
