Today, we are going to flood the market with contests. That’s right, we are giving it away faster than Tiffany Amber Thiessen on 90210. Do people that read blogs even get that reference? Wait. There’s a new 90210? What the shit?
Anyway. I’ve had a long lasting love affair with The Shins, dating back to “New Slang” sound tracking one of my all-time favorite films. I didn’t connect to the last LP like I did with Chutes Too Narrow and Oh, Inverted World, but “Simple Song”, (the new single from Port of Morrow) shows a return to form for the band.
Without question, things are different this time around. It’s a new lineup and the songs have a much more polished, electronic element, but Mercer’s voice still rings out and his uncanny knack for writing quirky pop nuggets is once again on display. I’ve only listened to the record a few times but I’m guessing this will be the face that launches a thousand backyard bbqs this summer.
So, what about the contest? We have one copy of Port of Morrow on vinyl to giveaway, and as a consolation prize one runner up will get a copy of the record on CD. All you have to do is send over your details via email - herohill AT gmail DOTCOM - or leave your details in the comment section below.
The band plays Toronto with The Black Keys on August 4th. Hmmm. I will be in Toronto at that point. Interesting.
