I’m not sure there’s a Halifax band that has toured far-er or wide-er in the last 4 or 5 years than Wintersleep. Since 2007′s “Welcome To The Night Sky” led them to some rather impressive acclaim (Juno Award, Letterman appearance, Sir Paul opening slot), it seemed like every other week we were getting a tour announcement for them.

They obviously found the time to crank out 2010′s New Inheritors, which earned them a new round of plaudits (especially south of the border) and now their latest album, Hello Hum is on the horizon.

June 12th will see the release of this new album, and there are two singles available from it already. Speaking as someone who’s unbridled love of Welcome To The Night Sky likely tempered my enthusiasm for the more subdued sounds of it’s follow-up, these new songs have me pretty excited. “Resuscitate” pairs the band’s familiar swooning hooks with peppy drums, razor sharp guitars, dreamy chimes and some almost Krautrock-like flourishes, while “In Came The Flood” starts like an ominous 70′s movie soundtrack before the melodies and a warbling rhythm section take over.

It’s great stuff, and I can’t wait for the full album.
